Lilies of the Field

Imagine being a doctor supporting a family on minimum wage?  In Calgary, many internationally trained doctors' talents are idling because they lack English skills. Lilies of the Field reaches out to these doctors by offering English courses to International Medical Graduates and resident graduate students at U of C. Most of the students are Muslim women, quite curious about Christianity.

Volunteers are needed to be conversation partners, provide child care during the classes and to pray. For more information, contact Laura Swart at 403-289-0005 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Train Teachers in China

When education officials in the rural Chinese county of XD wanted to improve teachers’ skills, they turned to the believers who improved their potatoes, trained their local doctors, provided scholarships for their children, and developed a water supply for a local village.  Now they have asked Friends of XD to train their teachers for two years, and if you follow Jesus and identify with their ethos, we want you to be part of the action — in China or at home.

In China, train teachers in a workshop, shoot videos of training exercises, or make an official visit.

A. Train Teachers in a Workshop in July 2012, February or July 2013.

B. Shoot Videos of Training Exercises - videos go into a library of training exercises, and when XD teachers want to check the details of an exercise, they run your video.

C. Make an official visit to XD – a vision trip, a prayer walk, or a friendship ambassador team.

At home …

  • Supervise monthly lessons on Skype.
  • Help a XD teacher practice English on Skype
  • Interview your neighbors on video so XD teachers can see and hear real people.
