Effective ways to integrate grammar into tutorial sessions.
ESL Literacy

Best practices and strategies for working with learners with 0—9 years of formal education.

Get Healthy Learning English
Alberta Health Services has a developed a short video called Navigating the Health Care System, Getting Health Care When you are Sick.
It has been translated and recorded in 9 languages. Teachers can use it as a teaching tool, the English version is clear and we only use easy words. They can pause and present it.

Upcoming Event: The Ministry of Inclusion
Senior pastors: You're invited to an interdenominational luncheon on February 2nd from 12- 1:30pm hosted by the C&MA Immigrant Ministry Network.
This facilitated discussion will address the foundational theological, missional and moral issues concerning the inclusion of all cultures in our churches. This event will be held in the Harvest Room at First Alliance Church. Cost is $8. RSVP by January 26th.

Teacher Tech Training
NorQuest College will be holding hands-on workshops in Calgary and Edmonton in January and February.
Workshops will familiarize you with online tools, and teach you how to create lesson plans that integrate technology into classroom instruction.
The focus will be on interactive technologies and occupation-specific ESL content in the areas of engineering, healthcare and oil/gas sectors although the tools can be applied in any ESL/ELT class.

Edmonton ESL Cooperative Offers Training Workshop
The newly-formed Edmonton ESL Cooperative will be offering a 12 hour Conversational ESL training workshop on April 20-21, 2012 in Edmonton. The location and other details are still being finalized. The 12 hour workshop is a condensed program based on the curriculum developed and used by CESLM Calgary. Participants will receive the complete manual and CD of resources. Lilies of the Field
Imagine being a doctor supporting a family on minimum wage? In Calgary, many internationally trained doctors' talents are idling because they lack English skills. Lilies of the Field reaches out to these doctors by offering English courses to International Medical Graduates and resident graduate students at U of C. Most of the students are Muslim women, quite curious about Christianity.

Ambrose Offers Pilot TESOL Class
Consider taking Ambrose University's “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages” (TESOL) pilot class. Dr. Adriana Bejko will be teaching both IND 150 TESOL Foundations I (fall semester) and IND 250 TESOL Foundations II (winter semester). Ambrose is interested in assesing the level of demand for this class, and it’s an excellent opportunity for some in-depth training in teaching English. The class will be held on Monday afternoons from 2:30-5:15 pm.

Christians in English Language Teaching Conference
Exploring the Vocation of English Language Teaching and Scholarship will be held 27-29 January 2012 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in Hong Kong , China . Train Teachers in China
When education officials in the rural Chinese county of XD wanted to improve teachers’ skills, they turned to the believers who improved their potatoes, trained their local doctors, provided scholarships for their children, and developed a water supply for a local village. Now they have asked Friends of XD to train their teachers for two years, and if you follow Jesus and identify with their ethos, we want you to be part of the action — in China or at home.
In China, train teachers in a workshop, shoot videos of training exercises, or make an official visit.
A. Train Teachers in a Workshop in February or July 2012, February or July 2013.
B. Shoot Videos of Training Exercises - videos go into a library of training exercises, and when XD teachers want to check the details of an exercise, they run your video.
C. Make an official visit to XD – a vision trip, a prayer walk, or a friendship ambassador team.
At home …
- Supervise monthly lessons on Skype.
- Help a XD teacher practice English on Skype
- Interview your neighbors on video so XD teachers can see and hear real people.
